2ND ANNUAL PICNIC

Saturday, September 14, 2019 marked a milestone for our Association with the dedication of our playground and the new swing set. I had the privilege of “Dedicating the playground to all kids, big and small, to enjoy for generations”.

About 70 people and several kids enjoyed a beautiful day in “Little Acorn Park”. Ken, Ron, Art, and Al cooked while Frank and Danny Pedroza’s band entertained. The kids ‘broke in’ the new swings, tested the 82 tons of washed #2 sand, and tried to wear out the bounce house which was arranged as a courtesy by David Hopper.

The installation is the culmination of over 90 hours of volunteer hard labor and 18 months of planning. The dimensions and construction are compliant with the Consumers Product Safety Commission guidelines. Significant cost savings were achieved not only by the volunteer work but also the excavator-tractor operated by one of our members, David Hopper, was a courtesy of the James Somerville Co. Additional savings were captured due to the reduced cost of construction materials from San Lorenzo Lumber Co. because another member, Ken Barge, is an employee.

I would be remiss by not mentioning some of the volunteers who worked so hard: Grady Kincaid, Al Gutierrez, Ken Barge, Charlie Asmus, Ron Brown, John Turner, David Hopper. Kay Joy Barge was instrumental in instigating fund raising activities to offset some of the expenses. Our Board of Directors spent many hours discussing, planning, and promoting the Park Plan. Finally, thanks to our members, who were surveyed, gave their approval, and financed the construction.

We believe we have achieved a quality installation which will last many years. We hope to have more enhancements in the future.
