GOAT PROJECT 2019

Approximately 240 goats were delivered July 9, by Goats-R-Us Co. Like last year they will graze clockwise around the older Oak Hills area beginning at the East end of Charter Oak Blvd. and continuing until they get to Oak Hills Dr. East of Mesa Oak. The herder’s name is Sebastian, he is from Chile, and he will be with the herd 24/7. Water will be drawn from hydrants through a special metering device. Where CWS water is not available we ask residents for their help. Likely the same homes as last year will be useful. For any questions or problems please contact me, I will be in communication with Sebastian as well as Goats-R-Us. For more information about them check out goatsrus.com.

The goat herd was picked up on August 5, 2019 after browsing 33 acres over a 27 day period. There were 6 street crossings, 4 trailer locations, and 8 water connections. There were a couple minor hiccups and unfortunately there were 5 fatalities to the herd. The cause of the deaths are under investigation but most likely a particular plant is the cause since there have been similar problems elsewhere. Questions were raised about the shepherds trailer and the noise of his generator which we will try to quiet down next time. Remember he is here 24/7 moving the herd around 12 parcels of our community in the effort to reduce the flammable vegetation. Even though they arrived later in the year than requested the results were quite good.

I’d like to give a shout out to everyone who contributed to the success of this years Goat Project: Grady, Al, Isaac, Raymond, Ken, Terry, Web, Debbie, Lauren, Gilbert, Daniel, Andy, Ron, Charlie, plus several homeowners that granted access to their property. Couldn’t have been done without you! Likely missed someone but Thank You.
